In 1962, another star was born into the Manipal Group. Karnataka Consumer Products Limited , now renamed Kurlon Ltd. , was established and it became the cradle of a new concept. A pioneer in itself. It started manufacturing cushioning materials using for the first time a combination of coir fiber, latex and polyurethane foam with the most advanced technical know-how from Austria. Raw-material is procured from the State of Kerala, bringing light into the lives of a large number of farmers and coir workers.
Kurlon Limited introduced India's first luxury mattress of international standards under the brand name —‘KURL- ON’. The Company has never looked back since then and today KURL-ON is a household name throughout the country making forays into homes, luxury hotels, hospitals and other institutions.
Kurlon Limited has two production units one in Bangalore and another in Bhubaneshwar. The superior quality of its products has found an export market in many advanced countries.
Its range of products includes ‘Kurlopillo’ (pillows and soft furnishings) and Kurlomat (doormats). It is diversifying into the latest designer furniture adopting Italian technology with a new range called Kurlocraft . It shortly proposes to introduce an experimental magnetic bed that is medically designed which will revolutionize the concept of providing sleeping comfort.
Kurlon Limited had a turnover of Rs. 740 million in 1994-95. The targeted turnover for 1995-96 is Rs. 1,000 million. It has diversified into products related to the comfort business.
Kurlon is planning to expand its manufacturing facilities and enter new areas of mattress manufacture by producing spring mattresses under collaboration.
